Summer Notebook: Jack McClinton - July 17, 2009
Spurs draft pick Jack McClinton checks in with how things are going during the Vegas Summer League.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Summer League is totally different from college where I was used to being the man and having the ball in my hand. Now I'm not the first option so it's taking some time to get adjusted to that. It's something that I'm just going to have to get used to.
Being in a new system there are new things I have to learn, so when I'm out there I just have to make the best of it and defend the ball and if I have an open shot I just have to take it and be able to knock it down.
I haven't really shot the ball all that much but I know I can play some better D. I know that I have to stay in the offense and just keep running the plays and the offense and be patient with it.
The guys are comfortable out here playing since some of them have been together before; I guess that makes me and DeJuan the new guys on the block so we're just playing our role. The other guys have really taken me and DeJuan in as rookies.
I didn't know what to expect with the summer league, but everything is working out.
We're going to have a great veteran team and a team that wants to win now with a lot of great players I can learn from and get better from. Being a rookie and wanting to learn a new system, it really helps having some of these guys who know all the cracks of the system, knowing where to be and who to ask is big for me and is a blessing.
